Fabricated Anticipated Questions
Product Related Questions
Can the bag be cut?
Of course it can. It’s a textile, and nothing is completely cut-proof. With the right tool, you can cut through anything. We didn’t perform a miracle, we just created a really tough bag that would require a lot of time or effort to get into. In most cases, thieves will just move on. Our bags will keep your stuff safe, except under the most hostile circumstances.
If this fabric is so great then why isn't it being use for other applications where it could save lives?
Actually it is. Our partner who developed the fabric makes protective clothing for law enforcement, corrections, homeland security, and mental health workers. We have taken their technology and pushed it to the next level for bags. If you're interested in slash-resistant t-shirts click here.
Are LOCTOTE bags bulletproof?
No! Absolutely 100% NOT! No fabric will protect you from a gunshot. It is irresponsible to even imply otherwise. Don’t consider this, or any other textile, for gunshot protection even for a second.
How can a soft comfortable material be so strong?
We use a proprietary fabric made out of an innovative combination of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and other technical fibers weaved by special high-density knitting machines, creating a fabric that is unlike anything else anywhere.
Can a thief just break the locking strap?
No, not very easily. Our straps are made from UHMWPE and steel, have a breaking strength in excess of 1,000 pounds, and are very resistant to most cutters. Even the grommets are installed in a proprietary way that enables them to hold an extreme load without tearing loose. Odds are that after a few tugs and slashes, most thieves would move on to an easier target.
Where are the bags manufactured?
We design all our bags in Columbus, Ohio and responsibly manufacture them in China. Our FLAKnit fabric is designed and manufactured in the USA.
Do you exploit child labor to make these?
No. We tried, but our kids revolted and made us buy them ice cream and play video games with them all day. It wasn’t a good business decision.
Are the bags heavy?
They're heavier than a thin nylon bag. The physical weight of our fabric is similar to that of a heavy canvas or nylon (300-500 grams per sq/m).
Why does your bags cost so much?
As you can probably tell by now, we do not skimp on anything. We use the best fabric, thread, hardware, straps, rope, leather, and construction methods. All this stuff is very expensive. We are not making the best margins in the business – just the best products.
After extended use, little white fabrics are starting to appear on my bag, should I be concerned?
This is normal for these types of fabrics. We do extensive lab testing on every batch of bags, and we can assure you that the bag is not weakened or compromised in any way by this.
My lock is stuck, what can I do?
Typically when this happens, the user actually reset the lock accidentally, but typically only by one digit. Put the lock to your combination, and then one at a time try changing each number one digit left, and then on digit right. For example, if your combination was 0-0-0, you would do this sequence: 0-0-0, 9-0-0, 1-0-0, 0-9-0, 0-1-0, 0-0-1, 0-0-9. Nine out of ten times this works.
