What materials do you use in your products?

We are committed to crafting products that are built to last. Made with full grain leathers, durable waxed canvas and our signature cut-resistant fabrics — our bags are designed to endure. Buy once, use forever. For full details on the materials used, please refer to the relevant product page.

Can the bag be cut?

Of course it can. It’s a textile, and nothing is cut-proof. With the right tool, you can cut through anything. We didn’t perform a miracle, we just created a really tough bag that would require a lot of time or effort to get into. In most cases, thieves will just move on.

Why not just make bags out of Kevlar®?

There are several reasons why LOCTOTE bags are far superior to any bags made out of Kevlar. First, our fabric is significantly more cut-resistant. Most Kevlar® fabrics offer an ISO 13997:1999 blade cut resistance level 2 and in very rare occasions level 3 (on a scale of 1 to 5). Our fabric offers the highest cut resistance level possible – level 5, which makes it 5 times more cut resistant than Kevlar® products. Additionally, Kevlar has poor UV resistance, causing it to turn brown and weaken if exposed to direct sunlight. LOCTOTE bags will not do this.

How can a soft material be so strong?

We use a proprietary fabric made out of an innovative combination of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and other technical fibers weaved by special high-density knitting machines, creating a fabric that is unlike anything else anywhere.

Why don’t you use vegan leather?

Real leather is far more durable. Faux leathers also tend to have a higher negative impact on the environment as they are most commonly made of varying forms of plastic. Bio-based faux leathers are not yet viable for production at scale and they do not meet our standards of durability.

Can I bring my bag through airport security? Is the lock TFSA approved?

Although the bag will definitely set off a metal detector, you can certainly travel with it and make it through airport security without any problems.

Just make sure the bag is not locked when you are going through security, otherwise the bag should pass the scanner without issues.

Can LOCTOTE bags be used with alternate locks?

Yes, you can. Our locks are combination locks that can be replaced if you’d like to. We’d recommend using a sturdy lock with a shank diameter of 6mm.

How do I wash my LOCTOTE bag?

No matter what bag a customer has, we offer these washing instructions: Hand wash in cold water using mild detergent/soap. Pat dry with a towel and air dry. Do not tumble dry or iron.

Why don’t you call these cut-proof bags?

Because they’re not. If we say “cut-proof”, somebody, somewhere, with some type of cutting device will post an internet video of our bag being cut. Our bags are made out of the most advanced slash-resistant fabric in the world. They are very difficult to cut, but they can be cut. If they couldn’t be cut at all, we wouldn’t be able to make them. Our bags will keep your stuff safe, except under the most hostile circumstances.

I’ve seen lots of security bags with a locking zipper. Why don’t you just use that instead of the lock strap?

The construction of zippers, even metal ones, requires that they be set into a fabric tape and then stitched into the bag. This fabric tape creates a weak point where the bag can be easily cut-open, circumventing the zipper altogether.

Can a thief just cut or break the locking strap?

No, not very easily. Our straps have a breaking strength in excess of 1,000 pounds, and the steel aircraft cable inside makes them very resistant to most cutters. Even the grommets are installed in a proprietary way that enables them to hold a 1,000 pound load without tearing loose. Odds are that after a few tugs and slashes, most thieves would move on to an easier target.

After repeated use, little white hairs are starting to appear on my bag. Is it defective and should I be concerned?

This is perfectly normal for these types of fabrics. We do extensive lab testing on every batch of bags, and we can assure you that the bag is not weakened or compromised in any way by this.

Is it true that aluminum foil works just as well as all the RFID blocking materials on the marketplace?

Actually, aluminum foil works as well as many of the RFID blocking materials on the market — not well at all. It will somewhat weaken the RFID signal across a very limited spectrum, but it will NOT prevent your cards and passports from being scanned through fabrics at a close range. We use a tested and certified RFID blocking material which exceeds industry standards for shielding all contactless credit cards, passports, drivers licenses, ISO 14443A/B and EPC Gen1/Gen2 contactless smart cards that operate at 13.56 Mhz and above (13.56 Mhz interface is the one that typically contains personal data).

A bag is only as strong as the thread that holds it together. What kind of thread do you use?

The seams of our bag are covered with a cut-resistant UHMWPE binding and is then stitched in place sealing the bag with UHMWPE threading. The advanced UV protection properties and a non-wicking finish specially designed for outdoor applications where seam strength retention and fade prevention during UV exposure are required. The advanced UV protection reduces strength degradation over traditional filament polyesters while also reducing color loss and fading. The non-wicking finish helps reduce moisture migration through seams.

Will LOCTOTE reimburse me if my bag or my stuff gets damaged or stolen?

No. We cannot accept liability for any actual, consequential, or incidental damages or losses incurred as a result of using a LOCTOTE product. Though we are confident that we produce the best and most secure products available, we cannot control the situations and circumstances in which they are used, or the forces and abuses to which they may be subjected.

LITELOK

How do I lock my bike with a LITELOK?

We would always recommend that you use your LITELOK to secure your back wheel and frame to a fixed, immovable object. Ideally use a LITELOK to secure the front wheel too. Keep your LITELOKs off the ground and always check your locks before leaving your bike.

What are LITELOKs made from?

LITELOK’s strap is made from a patented composite material called Boaflexicore. It consists of multiple components, including hundreds of strands of high tensile steel. These allow Boaflexicore to be strong, yet flexible. The lock housing is made from virtually indestructible hardened steel with drill resistant, marine grade stainless steel rivets.

Have your locks been independently tested?

All of our products are insurance rated and tested by independent UK anti-theft agency Sold Secure, which is owned by the Master Locksmiths Association. They are experts when it comes to testing the security of bicycle locks and use a variety of tools and methods that are common in real-life bike theft. Because of their respected reputation as experts in their field, a Sold Secure rating is used (and often required) by many insurers.

Our LITELOK Gold and LITELOK Moto range are both rated Sold Secure Motorcycle Gold and our LITELOK Silver range has been rated Sold Secure Silver.

Our LITELOK Silver range has also been rated ART2, by the Netherlands based testing house.

Will LITELOK scratch my bike?

If you correctly attach your LITELOK to your bike with the supplied WrapStraps then it will not scratch your bike. When securing a LITELOK Silver, make sure the metal casing isn’t touching the bike frame.

Can LITELOK withstand Twisting Attacks?

It’s almost impossible to break a LITELOK through twisting it with a tool like a crowbar or a tire iron. In fact it could cause serious injury to anyone who tries. Both LITELOK Gold and LITELOK Silver are made of Boaflexicore material and have incredible resistance to torsion attacks. It could actually cause serious injury to anyone who tries it on a lock that hasn't been tampered with. This is because as you turn the crowbar energy builds up within the tensioned Boaflexicore material which coils and could spring back and unwind rather violently if you let go.

The below video compares the LITELOK Silver Flexi-U to an equally security rated D-lock in a torsion machine specially developed with Swansea University College of Engineering (Prof Stephen Brown - Head of Engineering, Prof Nick Lavery, and Dr Adam Philo).

Can LITELOK withstand Angle Grinder Attacks?

Unfortunately no bike lock is able to withstand constant attack from an angle grinder.

Can LITELOK withstand Bolt Cropper Attacks?

LITELOK has category leading resistance against bolt croppers because Boaflexicore is tough & flexible but not brittle. The components of the material are non-contiguous. Bicycle thieves using bolt croppers will usually attempt to break a lock by creating a nick which turns into a crack because the metal is contiguous – it consists of an uninterrupted series of atoms. Boaflexicore was made so that it spreads and squashes by placing more material in front of the cut so that it can't be cut. We have many examples of attempted thefts which appear to be made with bolt croppers and which have been foiled by our material’s construction.
